Rangga Sasana, the self-proclaimed Lord of the Sunda Empire, dies

Jakarta, IO – Rangga Sasana, better known as Lord Rangga, died after being treated at Mutiara Bunda Tanjung Hospital in Brebes, Central Java, Wednesday (7/12). He was previously known as the high-ranking officer of the Sunda Empire.

His death was confirmed by his advocate Erwin Syahduddi. “Yes, his son has confirmed (the news) and is on his way to Brebes from Bekasi,” Erwin said, reported CNN Indonesia, Wednesday (7/12). Erwin made headlines when he helped Rangga propagated hoaxes about Sunda Empire.

Erwin admitted that he did not know the exact cause of his former client’s death. “We are still in mourning,” he said.

Sunda Empire was first proclaimed in Bandung, West Java. It went viral through a video clip circulating on YouTube on January 17, 2020. Rangga, born on September 12, 1967, claimed to be the “Governor General” of the Sunda Empire, dubbing it “the empire of the sun and the earth.”

His outlandish claim finally landed him in prison in January 2020 after he was charged for spreading misinformation. (rr)
