Protesters take to the streets again to ‘guard’ MK ruling

Jakarta, IO – Several civil society organizations will hold a demonstration outside the Parliament House and General Elections Commission (KPU) to demand that the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling on region head nomination requirements be adhered to by the lawmakers and policymakers.

To provide security, 4,716 police and military personnel will be deployed, said Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ade Ary Syam Indradi, as per Detikcom, Tue (27/8).

“We will also divert the traffic and road blockade on a situational basis,” he added.

He also appealed to the demonstrators to conduct the protests in a calm, peaceful and orderly manner.

“Please convey your aspirations calmly and peacefully, no hate speech and provocation that can disrupt public security and order and lead to anarchy,” said Ade. “Respect other road users and do not force your will by damaging public facilities.” (un)
