Jakarta, IO – Press Council reminded all and sundry about the importance of professionalism for journalists and media companies. This was stated by the council’s acting chairman Agung Dharmajaya during a public review of media registration draft regulation on Monday (7/11).

“Not less importantly, media companies and, of course, journalists must also be paid a decent living wage according to regulatory provisions,” said Agung, reported Merdeka on Tuesday (8/11).

He also highlighted the rapid development of media companies, and along with it, increasing number of journalists. This makes the professionalism of journalistic work a major concern for the Press Council. According to him, the media must be professional and comply with the code of ethics as stipulated in the Press Law.

“In the last 10 years, we have seen many new media emerged and accordingly, many journalists,” said Agung.

“Of course, we must also ask, are they professional and compliant to the journalistic code of ethics. This is important because Law 40 mandates that a journalist must conduct their work in a professional manner.” (un)
