IO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo has expressed his appreciation to the Joint Fact Finding Team (TGPF) for their report on the Novel Baswedan acid attack, as the TGPF has completed its task.  Jokowi has also ordered National Police Chief (Kapolri) General (Pol) Tito Karnavian to give follow up on TGPF’s findings, with a deadline of just three months.

“Yes, first I would like to thank the fact-finding team for delivering its results; there must be a significant follow-up by the technical team to satisfactorily resolve this case.

Jokowi mentioned that while the National Police Chief had asked for six months for the technical team, led by the Head detective and criminal (Kabareskrim)  Commissioner General Idham Aziz, to complete the findings, he assessed this as too long.

“Therefore, while the Chief of the National Police yesterday asked for six months, I rather instruct the technical team to complete what was delivered yesterday by TGPF within just three months,” Jokowi stated.

However, Jokowi was reluctant to comment on whether he would form an independent team if within the next three months Novel’s attacker has still not been apprehended.

Previously, there was a strong movement insisting that Jokowi set up an independent Fact-Finding Team (TGIPF), voiced by Novel and anti-corruption activists.  “I allow them three months, and I will see the results afterwards,” Jokowi said.

While TGPF has completed its stipulated six-month term of office, ending on July 8, 2019, it was announced in a press conference a few days ago that they have not yet succeeded in revealing the identity of Novel’s attackers.

Instead, TGPF recommended Polri set up its own field technical team, assigned to the task of resolving the Novel Baswedan criminal attack case, and bringing the criminals to justice.  (dsy)
