Jakarta, IO – During the 14th IMT-GT Summit on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Thursday (10/11), President Joko Widodo spoke about the importance of ratifying the 2022-2026 blueprint of Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) to realize the IMT-GT 2036 vision.
“In the period between 2014-2021, IMT-GT’s GDP increased by 39 percent even during the pandemic. In the future, this commitment must be strengthened, especially in face of the threat of a global recession in 2023,” Jokowi said on Friday (11/11).
According to Jokowi, the support of the government and stakeholders in the implementation is crucial. In his view, there are three major focuses. First, to revive the sub-regional tourism sector. According to the President, this is very urgent because the tourism sector has plummeted about 90 percent in the last two years.
“New ways must be sought through the acceleration of digital technology in marketing, the development of resilient and sustainable tourism, and the launch of the IMT-GT 2023-2025 Visit Years initiative as a joint marketing and promotion platform,” said Jokowi.
