Separately, LBH Papua director Emanuel Gobay said seven people were arrested by the police during the demonstration. Among them were People of Papua Petition (PRP) spokesperson Jeffry Wenda, National Committee of West Papua (KNPB) spokesperson Ones Suhuniap, and Omizon Balingga.

“They were arrested but I don’t know where they were taken to. I asked why they were arrested? What crime did they commit?” he said.

Protests were held in several areas in Papua, including the Abe roundabout, Jaya Asri junction, Waena Expo, and Imbi Park. As a result, the Papuan Police Chief immediately instructed his force at five precincts — Jayapura city, Jayawijaya regency, Biak Numfor regency, Yahukimo regency and Deiyai regency — to be in high alert.
