Jakarta, IO – The National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Gerindra Party officially declare to “cooperate” in the run-up to 2024 presidential election. The decision was announced by chairmen of the two parties, Muhaimin “Cak Imin” Iskandar and Prabowo Subianto, on the evening of Saturday (18/6).

PKB Deputy Chairman Jazilul Fawaid said Gerindra was a realistic choice for his party to clinch victory in the upcoming election. He also said this move was made in order to meet the presidential and vice-presidential nomination threshold of 20 percent.

“We are just waiting for the official ceremony to declare the president and vice-presidential candidate, for example Mas Bowo and Gus Muhaimin,” Jazilul told CNN Indonesia on Monday (20/6).

Although the two parties have cooperated, Jazilul said it is possible that other political parties may be invited to join as coalition partners. “We are still open [to other parties joining] and Gerindra also agreed to keep the possibility open, for example with the Democratic Party, PKS, or NasDem,” he said.
