IO – The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) expects to put forth a figure on the same wavelength as President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo for the presidential candidate in 2024. PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto commented that Jokowi could provide input to PDIP Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri to determine the Government’s direction in the future, so that the next administration remains in line with the current one. “It is impossible for the next president to attempt a different orientation, to move the capital to a place in the middle of nowhere. This cannot be. They have to be in harmony,” declared Hasto, in an online press conference, Monday (1/10/2022).
Hasto said this would underpin Megawati’s strategy. “And while waiting, the party continues to proceed with its consolidation. The winning process is thus not the work of any individual, but rather collective work with the people,” he said.
At the moment, PDIP remains committed to the existing election mechanism while awaiting the right time to act. The Party vows that it will move with the people in the effort to gain votes in the 2024 election. “We are not a party playing in the last round. We are not a party winning the election with “serangan fajar” (“money politics”), or dirty tricks on D-1 or D-2. We are a party that moves with the people, by going to the grassroots – as the most effective tactic in the election,” said Hasto. (des)
