IO – The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan – “PDIP”) and the Prosperous Justice Party (Partai Keadilan Sejahtera – “PKS”) held a meeting and socializing session at the PDIP Central Leadership Council (Dewan Pimpinan Pusat – “DPP”), Jakarta, on Tuesday (27/04/2021). In the Meeting, PDIP and PKS agreed on the importance of expressing a spirit of cooperation among citizens in mitigating the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We agree that this critical situation should encourage every one of us to cooperate with each other,” said PDIP DPP’s General Secretary, Hasto Kristiyanto.
Furthermore, Hasto points out how the COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting the people’s economy. “PDIP continues to monitor the economy at grassroots level. Therefore, Party management in the regions must report actual social conditions in their respective region as part of our commitment. This is duly ordered by our General Chairwoman, Megawati Soekarnoputri. She requests daily COVID reports from the staff in all regions,” he said.
Meanwhile, PKS DPP’s General Secretary, Habib Aboebakar Al Habsyi (“Habib Aboe”), declared that his Party finds many common points of interest with PDIP where they can work jointly. This is especially true since many PKS high officers admire the leadership of Proclamator President Soekarno. “We really admire Bung Karno’s leadership. The Chairman of our Faction in the House once made a special trip just to visit the grave of Imam Bukhori, the venerable primary recorder of the Prophet’s hadith, just because Bung Karno was the one who instigated its discovery. He always told us about the glory of the mosque there. We admire him for that. We retell stories about his leadership and take example from them,” he said.
Aboe went on to say that cooperation with PDIP includes how to recover economic and social conditions after the hit
from the pandemic. “It is a difficult challenge. However, we are working hard to avoid becoming the next India,” he said. “What we notice right now is just how worrisome and scary the COVID pandemic is. There is a high increase of confirmed to positive infections and deaths. This is not a game. As a political party, PKS encourages the acceleration of pandemic mitigation, and by extension, the acceleration of the vaccination.”
This is why PKS supports the Government in increasing the production of vaccine by Biofarma, and separate vaccine studies such as for the Red and White Vaccine and the Nusantara Vaccine. Furthermore, PKS also encourages the State in its role of reducing the people’s economic burdens through tax incentive programs, whether income tax incentives, reduction to elimination of two-wheeled vehicle taxes, etc. The concern of these two parties can be followed up through joint political action in Parliament.
