Jakarta, IO – Papuan activist Filep Samuel Jacob Karma was found dead on the beach in Jayapura. Papuan Human Rights Commission head Frist Ramandey said Filep died during diving and was swept away by strong current.

“The initial assumption was that he was diving under strong current,” said Frist, reported CNN Indonesia, Tuesday (1/11). “But we are still investigating the cause of his death. His swollen body was found in the early hours of the morning.”

The news was confirmed by the North Jayapura Police’s Adjunct Chief Commissioner Yahya Rumra. Yahya said the body has been brought to Bhayangkara Jayapura Hospital for an autopsy. Police are still waiting for Filep’s family to come and identify his body.

“We can confirm that a body was found by local residents at Base G Beach, believed to be Filep Karma,” said Yahya.
