Jakarta, IO – Alleged cases of corruption and money laundering involving employees of the Finance Ministry (Kemenkeu) continued to be critized by the netizens. They chided employees of Kemenkeu for their lavish lifestyle. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani is deemed to have failed in her oversight duty. And KPK is slammed for being weak in enforcing the law.

Respublica Institute’s research on popular conversations on Twitter shows that netizens’ strong criticism was triggered by two findings from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). The first finding was the freezing of 40 accounts belonging to ex-tax official Rafael Alun Tri Sambodo worth Rp500 billion. The second finding is the flow of suspicious funds at Kemenkeu worth a jaw-dropping Rp300 trillion.

“These two findings gave rise to two trending hashtags in the popular conversations on social media from March 7-9, 2023. The first one is 500M with 47,768 tweets for a duration of 11.5 hours. The second one is 300T with 73,581 tweets for a duration of 6.5 hours,” said Respublica Institute researcher Teguh V. Andrew, Saturday (18/3).

Meanwhile, the figures at the center of the conversation is the finance minister with 84,615 tweets (61 percent), followed by Rafael Alun Tri Sambodo with 47,768 tweets (35 percent).
