Jakarta, IO – The Ministry of Defense has provided 16 floating houses and 12 stilt houses, each measuring 9 square meters, to the residents of Empang Muara Angke Block, North Jakarta.
This assistance is an effort to improve the welfare of residents frequently suffering from tidal flooding and coastal erosion. At a maximum of 3 meters above sea level, North Jakarta’s coastal areas are vulnerable to flooding, with water levels sometimes reaching up to 100 centimeters, signifying significant material losses and threatening people’s health and safety.
The assistance has made the area more livable and brought essential facilities to support daily life. Each house is now furnished with a mattress, wardrobe, and toilet. The eco-friendly solar panels offer a practical solution to generate and supply coastal residents’ electricity needs. Solar power allows homes in this often-isolated coastal region to stay well-lit.
Beyond electricity, the assistance also addressed the issue of clean water access by installing a water desalination system that provides potable water from seawater, a significant breakthrough for coastal areas where clean water is hard to access.

Apart from the substantial assistance of rows of floating and stilt houses, a futsal field has also been built, offering a recreational space for the community. This serves as more than just a sports facility; it helps mitigate flooding by reducing standing water in the area. The assistance infrastructure shows the government’s commitment to creating a more resilient environment in facing natural challenges, while improving coastal Jakarta residents’ life quality.
