Jakarta, IO – Mount Rinjani National Park Agency (TNGR) has enacted a number of measures to this end.
“In 2025, we will implement zero waste traveling so that there is no more potential for waste to be brought up (to Mount Rinjani),” said Head of TNGR, Yarman, as per Detikcom, Wed (4/9).
Yarman said that the policy will be implemented in April 2025, after a three-month closure. It is noted that every year, namely from January to March, climbing activities at Mount Rinjani are always closed in order to restore the environment.
Yarman explained that currently Mount Rinjani has three standard operating procedures for climbing, waste and evacuation. Assessment indicates that zero waste tourism is ready to be implemented at the national park.
“We have prepared a food box model, so that the potential for waste can be eliminated,” explained Yarman.
In addition, climbers will be banned from bringing disposable food packaging up to the mountain. Food boxes have been prepared at the entrances before climbers begin their journey to the peak.

If climbers bring instant food and drinks from home, such as noodles, bread, or coffee, the food and drink packaging must be removed and replaced with a reusable box.
“The consequence is that officers must be firm and that is a challenge,” he said.
According to the agency’s record, the mountain was visited by 140,000 people in 2023. Situated in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, the mountain has six climbing routes with a maximum of 400 climbers allowed to visit the mountain each day. (un)
