MoFA: No Indonesian victim in Brooklyn shooting so far

Jakarta, IO – Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA)’s director for the protection of Indonesian citizens Judha Nugraha confirmed that no Indonesian was victim in the shooting tragedy in a subway car in the Sunset Park neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York, in mid-April 2022.

Judha said that he got the information directly from the Indonesian Consulate General in New York, who had coordinated with local authorities and the Indonesian community in New York.

“We are closely monitoring the shooting case at the subway station on April 12. The Indonesian Consulate General in New York has coordinated with the Indonesian authorities and community. So far, there have been no Indonesian victims,” said Judha, per Kompas, Thursday (2/6).

The incident at 36th Street station occurred when a gunman detonated a smoke grenade in a subway car before firing 33 shots with a handgun, killing 10 and injuring 23.

According to Sky News, a man named Frank James was arrested shortly after the incident. He was charged with committing acts of terrorism. James is being detained in Manhattan, New York City, USA. (un)
