MK rejects judicial review petition for medical marijuana legalization

Jakarta, IO – The Constitutional Court (MK) has rejected a judicial review petition on Law 35/2009 on narcotics in relation to the legalization of medical marijuana.

The petition was submitted by Dwi Pertiwi, Santi Warastuti, Nafiah Murhayanti, from the Cemara House Association, the Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR) and the Community Legal Aid Institutes (LBHM).

The ruling was read online via a live broadcast on the Constitutional Court’s YouTube channel on Wednesday (20/7).

“Rejecting the petitioners’ requests in their entirety,” said MK chief justice Anwar Usman.

The Constitutional Court considered that the material being reviewed as within the jurisdiction of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the government. Justice Suhartoyo said that the petitioners had no legal basis.
