Meeting Thailand in final, Indonesia U-22 team to go all out

Jakarta, IO – Indra Sjafri, the coach of  Indonesia U-22 national team (timnas) stated that his boys would not miss the chance to win the SEA Games 2023 gold medal after ensuring that they are at top condition and on fire.

The team, known as Garuda Muda, will face Thailand in the final match at the Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh, Tuesday (16/5).

“This team has progressed from the group phase to the semifinals with good results and all the players are committed, tomorrow we will give our best,” said Indra Sjafri at the Phnom Penh Hotel, reported Detik, Monday (15/5).

According to him, ahead of the defining match all the players are in the best condition so he will have no difficulty in assembling the squad. “Including Pratama Arhan, he is in good condition. But according to regulations he cannot play (due to red card). So we have 19 players who are all ready to play,” he added.

Indra, who hails from West Sumatra, said the support from the government, Sports and Youth Ministry, Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), National Sports Council (KONI) and the good work of the CDM (Chief de Mission) in preparing a fantastic field for preparation while in Cambodia.

“I take this opportunity to thank the clubs where the player comes from and also the good cooperation that started in March with the club coaches,” said Indra.

Timnas has been craving for a gold medal for 32 years. Indonesia last won gold at 1991 SEA Games in Manila. (rr)
