Jakarta, IO – The intense competition in the media industry makes the media outfits and journalists often neglect to report properly on children who are often exploited through “hit and run” coverage, especially when it comes to sexual violence cases.

IDN Times chief editor Uni Lubis revealed that, in fact, to do a coverage and report on news about children, empathy must be prioritized, not sensationalism and click-bait. In a sense, journalists must be patient until they can build “trust.”

“We cannot exploit and capitalize on children. This ‘hit and run’ coverage often causes feelings of sadness and disappointment for the victims and their families,” said Uni in a virtual discussion on Tuesday (31/5).
