IO – World number one doubles badminton player Marcus Fernaldi Gideon inaugurated the opening of his badminton hall and academy on Friday, August 28. The building, called Gideon Badminton Hall, is located in Bogor, West Java.

Marcus said that the academy was built to realize the dream of his father, who is also a badminton coach, Kurniahu Gideon.

“Papa really likes badminton, and wants to have his own hall and train. So we built this hall. The construction will take about a year. Later there will also be an academy for those over the age of 6. Hopefully it can be crowded and make badminton even more popular,” Marcus was quoted as saying, in the PBSI release.

Apart from being a badminton academy, Gideon Badminton Hall can also be used as a general training ground.

This building consists of four VIP fields and six regular fields, with a modern concept. Not only a badminton court, Gideon Badminton Hall is also equipped with complete gym facilities.

The inauguration of the badminton academy was also enlivened by the Gideon Badminton Home Tournament match for the men’s doubles sector. They were divided into eight pairs, consisting of senior and junior athletes. The eight couples then play half a game and meet each other. The couple who managed to collect the most wins emerged as champions.

Marcus Fernaldi Gideon / Bagas Maulana won the championship title, followed by Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo / Amry Syahnawi and Hendra Setiawan / Pramudya Kusumawardana Riyanto in second and third positions. (rp)
