The Glazers family, from the United States, bought the club in 2005, and have often faced resistance as they were deemed to have failed to grow the Premier League giant.

Another development was their star Cristiano Ronaldo will leave the club. “Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Manchester United with immediate effect after reaching a mutual agreement with the Red Devils,” it announced.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Manchester United as soon as possible after reaching a mutual agreement,” United said in a statement. “The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford.”

This is the culmination of the dispute between MU and Ronaldo which began last summer. Ronaldo then revealed all the bad things about MU, manager Erik ten Hag, the management and young players in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford two years ago. During his second stint, he scored 27 goals in 54 matches. (rr)
