Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo officially appointed Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD as acting communications and information minister after Johnny G Plate was named a suspect in a corruption case and detained by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) after being questioned on Wednesday (17/5).
Jokowi asked all parties to respect the legal process and said he has confidence that AGO will prosecute the case professionally and transparently.
The alleged corruption relates to Kominfo BAKTI (Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency) program to build base transceiver stations (BTS) to provide 4G internet services to more than 9,000 frontier, outermost and remote regions from 2020 to 2022. The project is estimated to worth more than Rp8 trillion.

Johnny, who is also NasDem Party secretary general, was accused of committing graft in the planning and bidding process. Apart from Johnny, AGO has also named five other suspects including the president director of BAKTI Kominfo Anang Achmad Latif. (un)
