Macan Museum to exhibit 80 contemporary works of art by Agus Suwage

Jakarta, IO – Macan Museum will exhibit 80 works of art by contemporary artist Agus Suwage on Saturday, June 4.

The exhibition, themed “Agus Suwage: Theater of Me,” features large installations, sculptures, paintings, and drawings that have never been published by the artist popular in the 1990s.

Agus Suwage was born in Purworejo, April 14, 1959. For more than 25 years, the ITB graphic design graduate has created self-portrayals to investigate his position as a subject in relation to the social context around him.

In this sense, Agus Suwage’s works provide a glimpse into the real picture at the intersection of national identity, politics, society, and individual expression that takes us into a complex psychological space. Concepts such as memory, fear, alienation, wishful thinking, personal identity, and humor are intertwined with broad social commentary. (Ricardo Ronald)
