Liz Truss resigns as British PM after just 45 days in office

Jakarta, IO – She personally announced her resignation outside the PM office and residence in Downing Street, London, Thursday (20/10).

“I recognize that given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party,” Truss said, a reported by the BBC, Friday (21/10).

Truss’s prime ministership is the shortest term in British history.

Conservative lawmakers had previously urged her to step down after her government faced a crisis following the reversal of economic policies as market started to lose confidence following the economic turmoil sparked by the announcement of her “mini budget.”

Truss said a replacement was expected next week. Her successor will be determined through a leadership contest in the Conservative Party, also known as Tory, the ruling party in Britain. (un)
