Jakarta, IO – It has been half a century since cartoonist Rahmat “Libra” Riyadi, 75, created satire comic strips that criticizes issues of corruption, hypocrisy, injustice and social inequality.
The collection of his works that have been published in various well-known media outlets is now featured in a political cartoon exhibition entitled Libra Libre organized by MataWaktu Visual Research Foundation, from March 16 to April 16 at Tabir MataWaktu, ITC Fatmawati, Jakarta.
Rahmat said he met the curator of Libra Libre, Oscar Motuloh, at Timun Parodi Negeri Kami comic strip exhibition at Bentara Budaya Jakarta in February. This was how the idea for this exhibition came about.
Fortunately, most of Rahmat’s works are still well kept in archive folders. “Every time I finish scanning a picture, I always put it in the archive folder for collection,” Rahmat told the Independent Observer, Thursday (16/3).
Rahmat the gave Oscar permission to select hundreds of comic strips with various theme from the era of New Order to Reformasi which are still relevant today.
