“If a person suffers at least four of the list of symptoms that I have mentioned, we can safely suspect the onset of lupus. You should immediately contact health services if this occur. If you treat it as early as possible, it won’t become a burden later. Lupus is not totally curable, it is only controllable. You can only ‘tame’ it or ‘put it to sleep’ for a period of time. Therefore, it might recur at any time, and you can only keep vigilant and avoid triggering factors. For example, avoid direct sunlight exposure and mitigate its effects using umbrellas, hats, or sunscreen products with a minimum SPF of 30,” dr. Mahrani said.

Meanwhile, in the live IG session themed “The Ins and Outs of Lupus: The Disease with a Thousand Faces” held on Wednesday (11/05/2022), Dr. dr. Alvina Widhani, Sp.PD, K-AI, an internal disease specialist serving as an allergy and immunology consultant at the University of Indonesia Hospital, warns lupus sufferers to regularly get health control checks to doctors in order to prevent damage to their vital organs. “These checks will also help determine the minimum dosage of your medication to ensure minimum side effects. And consequently, don’t habituate getting your own medication off the counter,” she said. (est)
