IO – Hotel Tugu Bali on Canggu Beach presented a “Ceramic Decoration Workshop”, our upcoming event in collaboration with Kevala Ceramic Studio.

Kevala Ceramics, one of the pioneers of ceramic artisanship in Bali, has been making beautiful handmade ceramics for the past 25 years, crafted by 100+ skilled Balinese artisans. This fun activity is a great way to spend an artful, relaxing afternoon with family and friends, enveloped in the beautiful setting of the Warong Tugu in the compounds of Hotel Tugu Bali’s lush tropical gardens.

Guests learned something new, by decorating ready-made bowls or plates with the sgraffito technique. The term “sgraffito” itself comes from the Italian word sgraffire which means (literally) “to scratch”. This technique involves stroking through a layer of still wet paint to reveal what’s underneath, whether it’s a dry coat of paint or a white canvas / paper.

This event was held in Waroeng Tugu, a humble old hut from the early 20th century that has been dismantled and rebuilt at Hotel Tugu Bali.  This area is inspired by humble Javanese and Balinese lifestyle experiences of the villagers in the past, evoking an air of nostalgic romance, to show how they eat comfortably in their own open kitchen or street waroeng by the rice fields.

With a special ticket price of IDR 400,000 ++ / person which included Japanese High Tea with the famous desserts from Tugu Bali’s Ji Restaurant upstairs. This activity followed a protocol of maintaining physical distancing with a restriction on visitors to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This program was held on Friday 30 April 2021 and divided into 2 sessions. First session for Adults started at 14.00 and Second session for Children at 15.30 until finish.
