Jakarta, IO – The General Elections Commission (KPU) offices at the provincial and regency/municipality levels have received 79 registrations from regional head candidate pairs on Tuesday (27/8).
The registration will be open until August 29. KPU chairman Mochammad Afifuddin said that of the 79 candidate pairs, eight of them are running for the gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial offices.
“KPU has also received registrations from eight pairs of regent and vice regent candidates from the independent pathway,” said Afif, as per CNN Indonesia, Wed (28/8).
In addition, the KPU has received registrations of 54 pairs of regent and vice regent candidates supported by political parties or coalitions of political parties. “Plus one pair of mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates from the independent pathway,” he said.

The Constitutional Court (MK) previously issued Decision 60/PUU-XXII/2024 concerning the nomination of regional head candidates. KPU then followed it up by issuing KPU Regulation 10/2024.
The regulation contains several provisions, including the lower threshold for nomination by political parties, even though they do not have seats in the regional legislative council (DPRD). (un)
