IO, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi – “KPK”) has read out its 2014-2019 Work Period in the Hearing Assembly (Rapat Dengar Pendapat – “RDP”) held with Commission III of the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat – “DPR”). KPK states that bribery was the biggest mode of corruption exposed in the past period. “We noted that the most common case is one of bribery, followed by falsified procurement of goods and services in second place,” explained KPK Vice-Chairman Saut Situmorang in his exposition in the DPR Building, Senayan, South Jakarta, on Monday (01/07/2019).

As for the highest number of corruption perpetrators, Saut pointed to members of the Legislative Branch, especially among the DPR and the Regional House of Representative (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah – “DPRD”) members. “The composition of corruption suspects from 2015 to 2019, i.e. up until June 2019 that KPK has handled, is as in the illustration: members of DPR and DPRD are still the most frequent perpetrators,” he said.

The area with the highest level of corruption is Java, as before. “In terms of area distribution, we see that in 2015-2019, as depicted in the illustration, Java Island remains the locus of the most concentrated corruption crime in Indonesia, followed by Sulawesi, Bali, Maluku, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and finally the small islands,” he said.
