KPK: Sum of bribery at Railways Directorate reaches Rp14.5b

Jakarta, IO – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) estimates that the money used to bribe Transport Ministry’s Railways Directorate General reached a total of Rp14.5 billion.

This figure was revealed after a number of officials from its Central Java office were caught in a sting operation in Semarang on Tuesday (11/4).

KPK deputy chair Johanis Tanak revealed that the figure was uncovered after investigators received information from scores of preliminary evidence.

“The money was allegedly used to bribe officials involved in the procurement and maintenance of railroads in South Sulawesi, Central Java and Java-Sumatra for the 2018-22 fiscal year. The kickback was 5 to 10 percent of the projects value,” said Johanis, reported CNN Indonesia, Thursday (13/4).

Johanis said KPK has named 10 suspects. The bribe recipients are HNO, BEN, PTU, AFF, FAD and SYN. While the bribe givers are DIN, MUH, YOS and PAR. (un)
