Jakarta, IO – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) finally detained Papua Governor Lukas Enembe in Jakarta after arresting him in Papua on Tuesday (10/1) on bribery charge, reported CNN Indonesia on Thursday (12/1).
The handling of the case had been dragging on because Enembe was being uncooperative and refused to be questioned by the KPK on the pretext of sickness.
The arrest was carried out by Papua Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit when the Democratic Party politician was dining at a restaurant in Abepura, Jayapura. Enembe was then taken to the squad’s headquarters in Kotaraja and flown to Jakarta.
Enembe’s arrest sparked resistance his supporters or sympathizers. As many as four people were hit by stray bullets when security personnel tried to disperse mob gathering outside the gate to Sentani Airport. One of them died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Enembe arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/1), at 8.45pm and was transported directly to the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) to undergo a medical examination.

KPK chairman Firli Bahuri said Enembe was arrested because he was suspected of trying to flee Indonesia. “KPK received information suspect LE is heading for Mamit Airport in Tolikara on Tuesday, January 10, via Sentani Airport,” said Firli Bahuri.
Enembe is expected to be detained for 20 days. (un)
