KPK names Papua governor as suspect for receiving gratification

Jakarta, IO – Papua governor Lukas Enembe has been named suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for receiving Rp1 billion in gratification, revealed his legal team. The anti-graft body summoned him for questioning at Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters in Kotaraja, Jayapura, on Monday (12/9).

However, Roy Renin, a member of his legal team, said the designation of his client as suspect is legally flawed because it violated the Criminal Law Procedures Code (KUHAP). According to him, the KPK has yet to take statement from Lukas Enembe as a witness in the case.

“I got information that this case has been investigated, which means that there is already a suspect. According to a letter from the KPK, dated September 5, the governor has been named a suspect, even though his witness statement has yet to be taken,” Roy said as reported by Kompas, Tuesday (13 /9).
