Jakarta, IO – Papua Governor Lukas Enembe was arrested and taken to the Papua Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) detention center today, Tuesday (10/1), confirmed Papua Police chief Insp. Gen. Mathius D. Fakhiri. He refused to provide further details as the case has come under the purview of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

“Please ask the KPK, we are only there to provide assistance,” said Mathius. It is reported that Papua Brimob headquarters has been attacked by Enembe supporters who opposed his arrest. According to a source familiar with the situation, Lukas is to be flown to Jakarta soon.

Lukas was named by KPK as the suspect in the alleged bribery and gratification case worth Rp1 billion in September 5, 2022. He was summoned for questioning by the KPK to Brimob headquarters in Kotaraja, Jayapura on Monday (5/12/2022).

However, Stefanus Roy Rening, the coordinator of Lukas’ legal team, considered the designation of his client as a suspect to be unprofessional. He said the Criminal Code stipulates that a person can only be named as suspect if there are two compelling pieces of evidence and have been examined in accordance with the Constitutional Court’s (MK) Decision 21/2014.

“We regret KPK’s unprofessional conduct in the handling of this case,” blasted Roy. (un)
