Jakarta, IO – The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) recorded 813 cases of violence against Indonesian female migrant workers (PMI). Komnas Perempuan commissioner Satyawanti Mashudi said the findings were summarized in the commission’s 2016-22 annual report, reported Tribunnews, Thursday (22/12).
She said the number of PMI also increased dramatically by 88 percent during the pandemic. But this is also followed by the rise of gender-based violence even though they have been protected by the PMI Protection Law, passed in 2017.

To mitigate this problem, Satyawanti said the commission recommended the House of Representatives (DPR) to immediately discuss and pass the Domestic Workers Protection bill and urge the government to establish an oversight mechanism that involves the public and relevant agencies. (un)
