KKP implements quota-based fishing policy to maintain fish stocks

Jakarta, IO – The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) said of the importance maintaining marine ecosystems through a quota-based and measurable fishing policy which aims to prevent overfishing.

According to KKP research center head Anastasia Kuswardani, this policy is based on Government Regulation (PP) 11/2023. The principle is to utilize fisheries resources while also focuses on long-term sustainability.

In its implementation, KKP will dispatch surveillance ships backed by airborne surveillance. Fishing vessels can be seen directly monitored through the command center.

“In the command center we have an integrated maritime platform, from where we can conduct monitoring,” she said.

The entire surveillance operations include before fishing, while fishing, during landing and post landing.

“Thus, it is very important for relevant parties to increase cooperation in dealing with illegal fishing,” she said. (bp)
