The activist and driving force behind Reading Bugs and RAI Advisor, Ihdinal Hikmatin Tajdidah, S.s, detailed three preparation stages to master the reading aloud method: starting, during and after reading aloud.
The starting preparation stage involves four things: setting reading objectives, selecting reading materials, re-reading, and planning responses. Then the second stage, highlighting the timing and during reading aloud: reading background information, paying attention to intonation, speed, word emphasis, and gestures in interaction. The last part, after the reading, is concluding the reading with a discussion involving listeners.
“It is crucial to prepare everything, even when practicing the reading aloud method. We need to know the length of the text and the reading material. We have to feel comfortable while reading it. Thus it is essential to choose reading materials,” said Dina.

Founder of the BK Teacher’s House and Widyaiswara Kemendikbud, Research and Technology RI, Ana Susanti, said that educators as role models need to build awareness that reading culture is beneficial and that reading is the key to successful learning. Teachers are advised to initiate joint activities to increase reading interest. Campaigning for reading aloud and sharing books between schools are among the actions and practices worth accomplishing.
