Jakarta, IO – The investigation into the Kanjuruhan tragedy has revealed several key facts. President Joko Widodo also instructed the Joint Independent Fact-Finding Team (TGIPF) to quickly unveil what caused the deadly riot after the Arema FC vs. Persebaya match.

“The Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs minister asked for one month, but I ordered it to be expedited because all of the evidence are plain for all to see,” Jokowi said, as reported by CNN Indonesia, Thursday (6/10).

So far, the police have quizzed 35 witnesses. In addition, 31 police personnel have also been investigated for breach of police’s code of ethics when they tried to disperse the crowd in the stadium using tear gas.

National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo said the investigation will establish whether rules have been broken, including the National Police Chief Regulation and FIFA rule which prohibits the use of tear gas in football matches as stipulated in FIFA Stadium Safety and Security Regulations Article 19b.
