Kalya is not the CID UNESCO Kiny Cultural Delegate for nothing. She excels in both dancing and academics. Just in 2022, she won first prize in her school’s Atlas Story Telling Contest; a gold medal for national-level News English Competition, Junior High School Level English Subjects, and Indonesian Science Olympics each – as well as in the National Youth Science Olympics.
What’s Kalya secret in balancing school and dancing? “Having proper time management, creating a proper scale of priorities, making ‘to do’ lists for all school assignments, doing my assignment on time, and studying and practicing diligently,” she said. “Furthermore, I always study things before they get taught in class. I study the day’s lessons the night before, so when I don’t understand something, I know what to ask the teacher in class. I always make sure that I turn in my school assignments on time.”
Not many children Kalya’s age can achieve such brilliant accomplishments. What message can you give your peers if they want to achieve what you do? “Keep on seeking your potential. Keep on developing your talents and interests by practicing them consistently and diligently. Be the best version of you,” she said. “Let’s be Indonesian children who maintain our passion in our creation, to make accomplishments and maintain empathy as we go international.”
