Jakarta, IO – K-pop fans together with Kpop4Planet held a creative activism at Hyundai Motor Studio, Senayan Park, Jakarta (23/5).

They criticized the plan by the South Korean automotive to purchase aluminum for the production of their electric cars from a new coal-fired power plant in North Kalimantan. Kpop4Planet previously launched a petition themed “Drop Coal” a play on the title of the song “Mic Drop” by BTS, the brand ambassador of Hyundai.

Instead of buying aluminum produced from “dirty” power plants, Hyundai is urged to buy aluminum produced from renewable energy such as solar and wind energy. To date, more than 10,825 fans from 68 countries have signed the petition.

Watched on by the public and media, K-Popers read out open letter written by the ARMY, a designation for BTS fans. They appealed to Hyundai to change its policy direction and opt for eco-friendly sources for their aluminum as it goes against the “green” and “eco-friendly” image the company seek to promote.
