Director of the Center for American Regional Studies at the University of Indonesia, Suzie Sudarman, has a different take. She said Jokowi’s absence in UNGA is not a problem because there is no critical urgency such as the issue of state sovereignty.
Since taking office, Jokowi has not attended face-to-face meetings at the High-Level Week (HLW) to take place from September 20-26 for the eight time. Instead, Indonesia is represented by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
The reason for Jokowi’s absence this year is not clear. The State Palace has not issued any official statement. (un)
