Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo was unable to attend the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, from September 12-27. Jokowi’s absence raised several questions regarding Indonesia’s role in global arena.

International politics expert Fitriani opined that Jokowi’s absence this time has caused Indonesia to lose two things. First, the opportunity to convey that Indonesia is capable of becoming a world leader because it has a capable leader. Second, the opportunity to build ties with other countries that are in the same position, in the face of uncertain global conditions due to various crises and conflicts that occur.

“The president might think that his presence as a state leader is not important in UNGA is not important,” Fitriani said, as reported by Tempo, Friday (16/9).
