Jokowi has asked for everyone to respect the Constitutional Courts decision. “The MK’s decision is a decision which is final and should be respected by all of us and carried out together,” said Jokowi in Lanud Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakarta, Thursday (27/6/2019).

Jokowi stated this after the Constitutional Court rejected all of Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno’s requests regarding disputes over the results of the 2019 Presidential Election. Jokowi was accompanied by his vice-presidential candidate Ma’ruf Amin during the address.

Jokowi also stated that the last ten months of the general election process had proven the maturity of Indonesia’s democracy. Jokowi also stated that the people had expressed their will, which had been upheld constitutionally. “The people have spoken, the people have shown their intention, the people’s voices have been heard, the people have made a decision, and it has been upheld constitutionally through a national channel, civilized and cultured,’ stated Jokowi. “We have carried out all of the stages openly, transparently, constitutionally, and alhamdulillah, tonight together we know the results of the Constitutional Court’s decision,” continued Jokowi.

Jokowi also stated that after the 2019 Presidential Election process had ended, there were to be no more differences in the society as a result of political choices during the election. “There is not more 01, no more 02. There is only Indonesian unity,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi emphasized that despite political differences, everyone must show respect towards one another. “Despite having different political choices during the presidential election, the president and vice-president chosen are the president and vice-president for all of the nation’s children, for all of Indonesia,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi stated in the future; he was sure that all elements of the nation would have the same passion for improving Indonesia, making it better, able to face global competition and become a leader in the world.

Meanwhile, vice-presidential candidate Ma’ruf Amin invited all sides to work together to help progress the nation. Ma’ruf asked all of the nation to unite. “Let us work together, roll up our sleeves starting tonight by saying Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. Together let us build this country for the good of all of the nation,” said Ma’ruf.

Ma’ruf stressed the essence of the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the dispute over the Presidential Election was for the good of the nation. He believes that there is no longer any need for friction after the court’s decision. “There is no longer any friction as we are all united, we are Indonesia,” he said.

According to Ma’ruf, the task now is to ensure that all elements of the nation are involved in realizing the aspirations in the proclamation. Ma’ruf wants Indonesia to become an advanced nation. “Our job now is how we are to realize the aspirations of the proclamation, the aspirations of the nation’s founders in making prosper and advancing the nation,” he said.

Ma’ruf Amin invited the people to reunite. “The Constitutional Courts decision, in essence, was not to pronounce a winner but for the benefit and good of the nation as a whole. As a result, we must act to unite ourselves again as a nation. There must not be any more friction as we are truly one. We are Indonesia,” said Ma’ruf Amin. (Dsy)
