Meanwhile, Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H Laoly noted the location of Singapore which borders Indonesia has seen the high intensity of people movement between the two countries, especially as Indonesians don’t need visa to enter Singapore.
“This extradition agreement will make it easier for law enforcement agencies in Indonesia to handle criminal cases where the perpetrators escaped to Singapore,” he said.

In his view, the bilateral and geopolitical relations between Indonesia and Singapore has also been facilitative in preventing potential obstacles in law enforcement process due to different jurisdictions.
“The ratification of the extradition law serves as the legal basis for Indonesia to deliver legal certainty for both countries in term of extradition procedures,” he concluded. (at)
