IO, Jakarta – General Chairman of Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) have finally had a meeting, following a hotly-contested election, marred by massive cheating. The two statesmen met at the Lebak Bulus MRT Station on Saturday morning (07/13/2019). The two opponents in the 2019 Presidential Election rode Jakarta’s new MRT train to Istora Senayan Station. Pertinent national issues were on the agenda as they shared lunch at the Sate Senayan Restaurant in FX Sudirman.
Prabowo Subianto congratulated Joko Widodo for his election to the office of President in the 2019 Presidential Election. “Someone asked why Pak Prabowo had not congratulated Mr. Jokowi on his election; I said that I have manners, and I have to behave,” Prabowo said. “So if I would like to congratulate you; I want to meet face to face; therefore, I congratulate you, Pak” Prabowo reiterated. Prabowo’s remarks were then responded to by shouts of support from onlookers at the MRT station. “We love you Pak…” the people witnessing the event shouted to Prabowo.
Meanwhile, Jokowi said that the meeting is a meeting between friends. Prabowo responded that they are indeed friends; only when participating in the 2019 Presidential Election contest did they assume opposite positions, competing and criticizing one another. “So if sometimes we were competing, criticizing, that is political demand, the demands of democracy, but after fighting hard, we remain within the framework of the Republic of Indonesia’s extended family,” said Prabowo. “We are both children of the nation. We are both patriots, and both of us want to do the best for the nation. I understand that many may still be emotional. We understand many things that we must improve. The point is I think that between leaders, if their relationship is good they can remind each other,” he concluded. (dsy)
