This is the second time Jokowi was mentioned in the list. In 2021, he was ranked 12th. The Muslim 500 profiled Jokowi as Indonesia’s elected president who stood strong against the opposition who questioned his Islamic beliefs when he made his second presidential bid with his vice president Ma’ruf Amin, the former chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
The Muslim 500 was first published in 2009 by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in Amman, Jordan.
According to its official website, the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center is an independent research entity affiliated with the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought. They chose Muslim figures to be featured from various walks of life including politicians, academics, humanists, athletes, to activists. (rr)
