Jokowi asks all national data to be backed up to prevent hacking

Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said the government has carried out a comprehensive evaluation following the hacking of the National Data Center (PDN) and is looking for a solution so that server hacking does not happen again.

“Yes, we have evaluated everything. The most important thing is that a solution must be found so that it doesn’t happen again,” said Jokowi, per Liputan6, Wed (3/7).

He has also instructed that all national data be backed up so that a similar incident does not happen again.

“All our national data must be backed up so that if something happens we won’t be surprised. And this also happens in other countries, not just Indonesia,” he said.

Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi previously explained that the cyber attack on PDN servers was caused by a new type of ransomware known as Lockbit 3.0. The hacker then asked for a ransom of US$8 million (Rp131 billion).

Recently, Brain Cipher Group, which claimed responsibility for the ransomware attack, has apologized and promised to provide the key to unlock the encrypted data free of charge today. (un)
