Jakarta Government to hold capital relocation ceremony in August


Jakarta, IO – Jakarta’s status as the Indonesia’s capital will be replaced by Nusantara (IKN) in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan. Jakarta will become a special region following the enactment of Law 2/2024 concerning the Special Region of Jakarta.

Jakarta Provincial Administration is preparing a special ceremony to mark the relinquishment of the capital city status, per Detikcom.

“There will be a ceremony to remove the flag and a duplicate of the proclamation from Monas to the State Palace in Jakarta before it is moved to the State Palace in IKN,” said interim governor Heru Budi Hartono, Wednesday (29/5).

Heru said this event is also part of the 79th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence celebration which is set to be held at IKN. Heru, who also serves as the head of the Presidential Secretariat, said President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo also plans to inaugurate the mosque at IKN.

“This means that it has become the central government’s commitment that the presidential decree be issued as soon as possible,” he said.

Law 2/2024 was signed by President Jokowi on April 25. However, the official relocation of the capital is still pending a presidential decree (Keppres). (at)
