Susandi, who is often called Apenx, said that they make noodles to promote a healthy lifestyle, without preservatives or food coloring. “Our self-made noodles don’t last long, but taste much better and fresher, as the noodles’ ingredients are used from selected quality ingredients. We make noodles daily and never put the noodles in stock or stored in the freezer,” convinced Susandi.

Apart from selling chicken noodles as the main menu, Mie Ayam Bangka Afui also provides other Bangka culinary menus such as tofu, kwetiau, vermicelli, and wide noodles. He mentioned that Bangka noodles are different from other chicken noodles in general as Bangka noodles have a softer texture and are served with bean sprouts, Sonkit orange juice, or Philippines lemons (kalamansi, small oranges used for chili sauce) and clear chicken broth.

Satiated with Afui’s chicken noodles, we expired some more flavors with seafood toppings. A bowl of Kok Tofu arrived at our table, looking more like Palembang’s Tekwan dish, with clear savory broth, to be our next flourishing meal.

A bowl of Kok Tofu contains fried tofu with fish dough filling, fish balls and Fukien (crispy-fried fish cakes), complemented with boiled bean sprouts, mustard greens and minced chicken on top. The Tofu soup goes perfectly well with Tauco (a paste made from preserved fermented yellow soybeans) sauce.

The Kok Tofu soup is Susandi’s original signature dish, with all homemade ingredients. “We make all the ingredients by ourselves. We make the Fukien, not frozen ones. Fukien is a typical fish cake wrapped in tofu skin,” confirmed Susandi.

Susandi also provides a selection of Bangka special drinks and snacks, such as Red Bean Ice drink, Fresh Sonkit Orange Ice, fish skin crackers and Bangka’s Kemplang crackers made from mackerel. One can simply say that Mie Ayam Bangka Afui is the only Cirebon’s Bangka-Chinese blend culinary; a charm of Bangka.

The prices for the varied menu in Afui’s Bangka Chicken Noodles range from IDR 19,000 to IDR 30,000 for a complete package of chicken noodles, fried Wonton and meatballs. The Stall is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those who live in Cirebon can simply order the noodles via online applications. Frozen products are also available to order through the marketplace.
