IO – Persipura Jayapura soccer team coach Jacksen F Tiago was spotted at the sixth series of Indonesia Basketball League (IBL) Pertamax 2020 at DBL Arena, Surabaya, Sunday 8 March. Jacksen turned out to be watching the derby of the City of Heroes: Louvre versus Pacific Caesar.
He came with his family.
“We are in the same hotel as the Louvre; I was able to meet Daniel Wenas and Dimaz Muharri too,” Jacksen said. Wenas and Muharri are Louvre players.
The Louvre eventually won the Surabaya derby. Land Crocodile Team overcame Pacific Caesar, with a score of 86-83.
“Thank God the Louvre won this fight,” continued the former national team coach.
In addition to encouraging the Louvre, Jacksen’s showed up at DBL Arena to fulfil the wishes of his son, Hugo Samir. Apparently, Hugo has ideals of playing basketball.
“He likes soccer and basketball. As a parent, I don’t want to force it. The most important thing is that he is happy to be part of the activity,” Jacksen said.
In his first season in Indonesia League, he played for Petrokimia Putra, which ended up as league runners-up Indonesia’s first. Tiago then moved to PSM Makassar before finding success with Persebaya Surabaya. He was the best player in the Liga Indonesia for the 1996/1997, season when he helped Persebaya secure the championship.
After two seasons in Persebaya, he then moved to Singapore, to play for Geylang United, but only lasted one season before returning to Persebaya. In 2001, he moved to Petrokimia and at the end of the season retired as a player.
Tiago brought Persebaya, which was relegated to the rear the previous season, to the First Division in 2003 and winner of the 2004 season.
In 2008, he signed a managerial contract with Persipura Jayapura. During his tenure at Persipura Jayapura he has snagged three titles: Indonesia Super League in the 2008-09, 2010-11, and 2013 seasons.
In March 2013, the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) asked Jacksen to become assistant coach of the Indonesia national team, in the face of Saudi Arabia at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualification round. After that in April he was officially appointed by the PSSI as head coach of the Indonesia national team.
In November 2014, he signed with Penang FA, and brought Penang FA promotion to the Malaysia Super League.
In 2017 seasons of Liga 1 Indonesia, he signed a contract with PS Barito Putera, but now he is coaching Persipura again. (rp)
