The RKUHP was supposed to be ratified by the House in the September 2019 plenary session. However, a number of parties have urged that it be postponed due to some controversial articles. President Joko Widodo also asked the House to postpone the ratification to rediscuss the articles.
Edy said that his ministry had done outreach to gather opinions on the RKUHP since 2021. In addition, he stated that the Law and Human Rights Ministry has removed, reformulated and refined the language in several provisions to comply with MK decision.
Regarding the article on insulting the president, there is also a provision that a charge can be dropped if it is in the public interest. So, Edy reiterated, the material about insulting the president in the RKUHP is completely different from the one that has been voided by MK. (at)
