IO – The Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani states that all Indonesian leaders, both present and future, must adhere to the values of Pancasila as first presented on 1 June 1945: Belief in God, Nationalism, Humanitarianism, Democracy, and Social Justice.
Puan expressed her view above on the Anniversary of the Bung Karno Month 2020 and 7 Years of the Death of DR. (H.C.) H. M. Taufiq Kiemas, celebrated with a virtual Sermon, Recitation from the Holy Quran of Surah Yasin, and Tahlilan, joint recitation of religious texts to commemorate the passing, held in Jakarta on Monday (08/06/2020). “Both Bung Karno and my father, Taufiq Kiemas, have left a legacy of important values to the nation. These values – Belief in God, Nationalism, Humanitarianism, Democracy, and Social Justice – must be firmly adhered to by leaders of the nation, whoever they may be,” she said.
Puan further stated that Bung Karno and Taufiq Kiemas have shown that the unity and integrity of this diverse nation are more important than anything else. Both these national figures are accepted by all elements of the nation. They help make national unity a reality. “Cooperation, the core spirit of Pancasila, is similarly only brought into reality with the unity of all the sons and daughters of the nations. Both Bung Karno and Mr. Taufiq have worked hard to unite our nation,” she said.
Other than Puan, national figures who participated in the event include the General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah K. H. Haedar Nashir, Chairman of PBNU K. H. Marsudi Syuhud, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat – “MPR”) of RI Bambang Soesatyo, and General Chairman of PP Bamusi Hamka Haq. (nhn)
