Indonesian Navy’s training aircraft crash in Madura Strait

Jakarta, IO – Training aircraft G-36 Bonanza T-2503 belonging to the Indonesian Navy crashed in the Madura Strait on Wednesday (7/9). The cause is yet to be known. The Navy has deployed seven warships, two patrol ships, two helicopters, 2 frogmen command teams and two diver teams.

Naval Aviation Center (Puspenerbal) commander Rear Admiral Dwika Tjahja Setiawan explained the chronology.

“At 08.55 WIB, the plane lost contact above the Madura Strait, between Bangkalan and Gresik,” he said.

“At around 09.30 WIB, it was reported that the plane which was taking part in the Air Defense Exercise Siaga Armada II with warships from the Second Fleet Command (Koarmada II). It crashed in the Surabaya West Shipping Channel (APBS), Madura Strait, East Java.”

Within the Navy, the Bonanza G-36 is commonly used as strike aircraft in air defense exercises to protect the warship convoy. (un)
